Should I Get LASIK?
As I’ve mentioned before, I just started a new job on Monday. After going through hours of orientation and paperwork, I found out that the insurance I have covers LASIK. That means I have the rest of this year (at least) to decide if I want to get it done or not.
I’ve talked to a couple of people who have had it done, and it seems like they’re happy with their decision. There were no major complications, and they no longer need glasses or contacts.
From a financial perspective, it definitely makes sense to get it done. Anyone who has ever had to buy glasses or contacts knows how expensive they can get. It would also be nice to not have to worry about losing my glasses or forgetting to take out my contacts.
As far as I can tell, the pros really outweigh any potential cons, so I’ll probably get LASIK done sometime this year. However, I’m sure some of my readers have had it done and have their own opinions on it, so please share. Do you think I’m making the right decision?

I’m not a regular reader, so I am not sure if you are male or female. If you are female, you may want to wait until you are done having kids (if you plan to have any) because your vision often is changed by pregnancy.
Other than that, everyone I know that has had LASIK has been extremely happy.
I’ve been wearing glasses since about 2nd grade… You would think that I’d be the first to jump at the opportunity for LASIK surgery but frankly I’m a little edgy about someone messing with my eyes (as safe as it may be).
My uncle however recently had the procedure done. He wore sunglasses for a day and he was good to go the very next day. He hasn’t had any complaints about he procedure and everything appears to be “A OK!”
I’m a guy, so I don’t have to wait for the kids. So far it sounds like I should get it done.
My father had it done two years ago and absolutely loves it. I plan on also getting it once I get out of school and can afford it.
Broke Grad Student,
Please share with us the mystical insurance company that covers LASIK.
I’ve been wearing glasses since I was in elementary and I’m tired of them. I tried contacts and it just irritated my eyes after years of wearing them. I’ve been considering it (LASIK) as well but I’m still undecided…
Update us when you’ll be doing it and how it goes..
@abemore
I guess I should be more specific with the details now that I’ve had more time to read about them. I have Great-West insurance through my employer. In general, I don’t think they cover LASIK, but through my employer’s group policy, they reimburse up to $3000 for LASIK.
@AJ
I’ll definitely keep my readers up to date when I finally decide what to do.
